In the tnonth of May last, just as I wa» selling out from Albermarle in Virginia, to return to Illinois, I perceived, greatly to my surprise and regret, that rny name had been introduced into the electioneer ing harangues, and newspaper para graphs of the day ; and that some pre judiced partisans were disposed to caU in (piestion the correctness of the state ment, said to have been made by me, and to traduce my character.
